The group, along with the government's State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television office generally reject movies which contain sensitive political issues, organized crime themes, nudity or superstition. Furthermore films which are not viewed as positively portraying the Chinese nation or Chinese ethnicity are generally rejected. They also limit foreign films distributed in China to only 20 per year.
Chairman Han vocalized the Film Group's view on films recently with his comments, calling on Chinese domestic film makers to produce more patriotic films, he cited the fact that Hollywood movies often cast Americans as the heroes who save the world from imminent disaster: "When an evil monster that wants to destroy the world appears, who saves mankind? Americans. This is patriotism too. You can't deny it"
Han also called for more 'ethically inspiring' movies, citing Will Smith's 'Pursuit of Happyness' as a good example: "That's the kind of values we want to promote."
