'Shinobi', based on the Japanese novel 'The Kouga Ninja Scrolls', is a CG-assisted period piece that told the story of forbidden love between members of two warring clans of superpowered ninjas in feudel Japan. To destroy opposition, the Shogun order the two clans to break a centuries long truce. The film was a hit in Japan and has since been released on DVD in the US. It also spawned a #1 single in Japan - Ayumi Hamasaki's 'Heaven' was featured on the soundtrack.
Makowski is best known for 2006's 'One Last Dance', which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. Its a mafia themed film featuring an international cast of big names like Francis Ng, Vivian Hsu and Harvey Keitel. According to Variety, the film will be set in Hong Kong in either the present or future and will tell about the romance complicated 160 year feud between two multi-national security forces.
