'Warlords' Conquers Asian Box Office

Peter Chan's new historical epic,  'Warlords', starring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Kaneshiro Takeshi opened to big numbers in six Asian territories this past week.  In Mainland China the film took a total of 90 million RMB (US$12.2 million) through Sunday,  making it likely to pass the US$17 million dollar total of 'Lust, Caution' which was released in China in November.

In Hong Kong the film took in HK$8.5 million (US$1.1 million) to beat out Western competition 'I am Legend' (US$977,000) and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' (US$168,000).

Across Asia as a whole 'I am Legend' sold more than Warlords (US$20 million vs approximately US$15 million), but Warlords has yet to open in Taiwan, Korea or Japan.  Taiwan is scheduled for December 28th,  Korea for January 31st.  Japan release date is not yet set. A US theatrical release is likely, but not yet announced.
