Daniel Wu Carefully Considers Second Time in Director's Chair

In an interview discussing his role in Derek Yee's 2007 hit 'Protege',  Hong Kong-based actor Daniel Wu discussed a wide range of topics including working with Protege costars Andy Lau and Zhang Jingchu,  his upcoming film with Jackie Chan and the possibility of a follow-up to his 2006 directoral debut.

'Protege' was Wu's first opportunity to work with film legend Andy Lau.  Wu expressed that he was inspired by Lau's hard work and focus and noted that Lau excels at both singing and acting while he is only an actor. Discussing Protege director Derek Yee,  Daniel discussed his new project,  titled 'Shinjuku Incident', which marks the 4th project Yee and Wu have collaborated on.  Wu is costarring with Jackie Chan in the film, which is filmed almost entirely in Japan.

Wu also spoke about returning to the directors chair after winning the 'Best New Director' HK Film Award for his 2006 debut film 'The Heavenly Kings'.  He is quoted as saying: "Winning best new director of course was a nice surprise but has given me pressure to make a better second."  Wu admits that he has several ideas and is starting on scripts, but is taking his time: "Whatever I choose, it will definitely be something strange, original and off-beat."
