The film, costarring Jason Statham, is about a rogue assassin who starts a war between rival organized crime groups in San Francisco. Jet Li plays the assassin and Jason plays a cop chasing after him.
Jet Li recently wrote a blog discussing the topic of his action movies not clearing the Chinese censors, pointing out that his as either a police officer or as a criminal were both deemed unacceptable by the censors, disqualifying most of his action movies and leaving only his appearances in period films as acceptable. Jet Li was a 5 time Wushu champion as a youth and is also a leading celebrity philanthropist in China.
'War' is already playing in the US and wil be released in HK on September 13th.
