Johnnie To's 'Breaking News' Next HK film to be Remade by Hollywood

Following in the footsteps of 'The Departed', yet another Hong Kong script is being adapted for a Hollywood remake. Paramount pictures is currently talking to Hollywood blockbuster director Joel Schumacher ('Phone Booth', 'Batman Forever') about directing a remake of Johnnie To's 2004 crime film 'Breaking News'.  The film won To the best director award at the 41st Golden Horse Awards and was screened out-of-competition at Cannes.

The film tells the story of an embarrassing defeat by HK police at the hands of a cunning criminal gang that is broadcast live on TV by the media. In retaliation the police attempt to spin the news coverage in their favor as the hunt down the criminal.  Richie Ren, Nick Cheung and Kelly Chen appeared in the Hong Kong version,  no word yet about who will be cast for the Hollywood Version.
