Koyuki Aims for Pan-Asian Blitz

Single-name Japanese actress Koyuki (agency profile) first came on the international scene in 2003's 'The Last Samurai' where she costarred with Ken Watanabe and Tom Cruise.  Since then she has become a full fledged super star in the Japanese domestic market,  garnering a number of roles in top television shows and movies as well as literally dozens of high profile endorsement deals and commercial appearances.  But unlike Ken Watanabe, she has not leveraged her 'Samurai' buzz into more foreign film appearances.

A recent deal with Japan's Avex Entertainment Group and its Hong Kong-based subsidiary aims to change that situation however.  Avex is best known for its Jpop record label publishing the music of such superstars as Hamasaki Ayumi and Koda Kumi,  but in this case its the Avex Asia subsidiary that is taking the lead to promote Koyuki to other Asian markets.

UPDATE:  Koyuki is already reported to be amongst the cast for John Woo's upcoming epic 'The Battle of Red Cliff'.
