The Banquet set for theatrical release in Japan

It may be 9 months after its premiere, but Feng Xiaogang's exquistely scored and filmed "The Banquet" is just now reaching Japan's theaters.  Starring Zhang Ziyi, Zhou Xun, Ge You and Daniel Wu, the film is loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet,  but set in the 10th century China.   Ge You plays the new emperor who has usurped his brother's thrown and taken the ambitious young emperess (Zhang Ziyi) as his new bride.  Wu plays the Hamlet character, the prince set on vengence for his father,  while Zhou Xun plays the tragic figure of Wu's unrequited love. Release is set for June 2nd.
