Teatro Regio do Parma - Verdi's Rigoletto

    Teatro Regio di Parma

I have a marvelous time, I have been to Verdi's Rigoletto Italian opera.  I was so enjoyed tonight.  Absolutely, the story was great.  This was my second time to watch Verdi's opera (one was Aida).  If I have chance I will live in Italy for few year, as well as to get to know more about their culture.  I am so in love Italian opera.

Giuseppe Verdi's monumental opera Rigoletto is back - this time in totally authentic Italian form.  The Teatro Regio di Parma, Mecca of all things Verdian, once -in-a-lifetime chance to see a genuine Italian opera all the way from Italy.  This is Verdi's operatic masterpiece as you have never seen it before.  Using original sets, crafted in the old theater in Parma and shipped right onto the Festival stage this production of Rigoletto is performed true to th tastes and style of Verdi" day - sumptuous, elegant and grand.

He wrote numerous masterworks that dominate the repertoire of classical opera.  His music, both dramatic and lyrical, has an infectious quality that leaves audiences humming the melodies long after a performance is over.  In the story of Rigoletto the court jester, Rigoletto, mocks important dignitaries in the court and becomes embroiled in a deadly curse that eventually seals his fate, and that of this beloved daughter, Gilda. Luch, Dramatic and laden with famous arias - this is Verdi's Rigoletto at its ' tutta Italiana' best.

The Teatro Regio di Parma has had a very long, rich theatrical and musical history, since it first opened in Parma in 1829.  In its early years, it staged traditional bel-canto opera but when Giuseppe Verdi's operas hit the theater in the 1850s, it experienced a new and immense popularity.

In 1872, Verdi directed a glorious Aida at the theater and in 1913, Arturo Toscanini also a Parmesan like Verdi, took to its stage to mark the centenary of Verdi's birth. To this day the Teatro Regio remains closely connected to Verdi's work and is one of the most important theaters in the classical operatic tradition.  Numerous legendary artists, including Beniamino Gigli, Maria Gallas, Fraco Corelli and Renata Tebaldi have graced its stage and its annual Verdi Festival is a gala of operas, that commemorate the great composer.
