haha!!i have so many laws to study for tomorrow, but here i am..blogging..
last week, we were discussing in our class about this: which comes first, the idea of the table or the table itself? most of our time in that period was used for this.
well, our professor asked one of my classmate the question "which comes first, the idea of the table or the table itself? we argued and fought for our stands. first, i think that the idea of the table comes first because how can you be able to come up with a table if you don't come up with it's idea first, right??but then again, our professor asked us the same question and there we go, saying the same answer again. he then explained to us this...
according to Plato, the idea comes first and that knowledge is innate. but for Aristotle, the object comes first. and that our mind is a "tabula rasa" or blank tablet. when we talk of ideas..we must always give importance for the principle " nihil querrens intellectu quod prius non fuerer in sensu" - nothing enters into the mind without passing first through the senses.
and that made me realize that we learn about things because we see them.
the object always comes first, then it will pass through our external senses and then in our percept where our internal senses and common sense will put them all together, percept contains all the individuality, concrete, particular, non- essential characteristics of the object, and then in our cognitive senses, memory and imagination therefore we have the phantasm of an idea. and then to the abstracted nature which is the agent of intellect- abstracted nature contains all the universal, intelligible, abstract and essential characteristics of the object, going to the possible intellect having the interpreted nature..
when we interpret something or from the abstracted idea, we always come back to the phantasm of an idea where we store our memory or imagination of an object of which we saw...
i know it is complicated, i don't even like logic myself. it has so many arrows here and there... but for those who are good in public speaking or debating..it is a good start..
so there you go..don't confuse yourself with this...you always have your own opinion..it's up to you..hehe
peace and love,
