At the beginning of this year I was elected co-chair of the Asian American Committee at the Directors Guild of America (DGA).  I will be serving a two-year term, with co-chairs, Ron Dempsey and Babu Subramaniam.  Our first big event will be happening early next month: A special pre-release screening of "Dragonball Evolution" followed by Q&A with director James Wong. This event will be open to non-DGA members, so if you are in Los Angeles, come out and hear director James Wong discuss the making of this big-budget studio flick.  The film opens in the U.S. April 8 so this will be a sneak preview, in addition to a chance to hear from the director.

Well... DragonBall "evolution" (4 millions?). And now James Wong? Man, another Dragon Ball... Just in another incarnation. I do not know how nobody saw where the boat was going.

i'm sure James Wong will get a lot of pointed questions from Dragon Ball fans about the decisions made in this movie...   should make for a lively discussion!

"Lastly, since when was the Kamehameha ever used for lighting candles anyway?" This scene is a "romantic", is not it? They trivialize the power of character. Goku in college (this is for the public to try to identify with the character, right?). But in the original (Dragon Ball Z), the fun was goku see (a teenager "fool") living alone, as a "wild" and then when he wed is something interesting, because the woman leads him (and he has children, has something more current than that? A father young, inexperienced, needing hunt to sustain the family).

I'm afraid to spend the money on the film. =[

If at least there was the famous "final look" (LOL) of street fighter. However, Ming Na Wen is a better character Chun-li. Making a movie based game is easy. Not much history in the game, so if you have talent, you will create a great story. It is very different from a book. Chris Tashima could do. He won an Oscar.

I've seen the movie through other means and to be honest, I'm quite disappointed with how Son Goku was portrayed as a character.  Yes, changes are necessary if an adaptation of a long running series is being made.  But not if you completely bastardize the character himself.  Lastly, since when was the Kamehameha ever used for lighting candles anyway?

Afraid we'll get to watch this one crash and burn (smokin' hole baby!) like "Street Fighter." *sigh*

This movie is very commented. I not only liked two things: Because of rising Asia, the director could bring Asian actors (if the studio does not accept, then do not do). When the film was very different from the original, then they put "evolution". But is an error, it means that the work of Akira is lower.
But I hope the film makes success.
