Sam & Clarence 26-27th Jan 2010, Esplanade Concourse

It was another great run with Sam over the 26th & 27th Jan show at the Esplanade Concourse. This time we had the privilege of collaborating with local published poet, Yi-Sheng; adding musical creativity to his already intriguing work. It was also the first time we had presented a show of spoken poetry and fresh-from-the-oven original songs we had interpreted & written from his poems.
Mood guitar accompaniment as Yi-Sheng recited one of his poems.

If you've ever tried using someone else’s written poems as lyrics for a song, you'd understand the challenges one faces: interpretation of text, structure, rhythm, melody & harmony, feel, style, and (if not) most importantly, the integrity of the poem and intent of the poet.
Only after having started writing, did we realise the different levels of artistry involved in this experimental adaptation of poems to lyrics. We enjoyed every bit of adventure and cheeky moments working with lyrics first and music after; tweaking a couple of lines and adding a few others, to finally present them as songs. These original numbers were entitled as their origin: Virgo, Translations, Naka, White Apes and Crystal Pear. Two other personal originals of mine, AlleyCat and Lover-Friend, were also performed over the two days.

Yi-Sheng back on stage, reciting Hymne.
Sam & I had an awesome time working out our creative muscles together, enjoying the process of a rewarding challenge. We would like to thank our dearest friends, family and Esplanade for your constant support, and to Yi-Sheng, thanks for lending us your work and for actually liking what we did to them, haha. To all who came back to see us after catching us on the 9th & 10th ( http://www.alivenotdead.com/clarenceyeo/Sam-Clarence-9-10th-Jan-2010-Esplanade-Concourse-profile-882569.html ), a big thank you!! Incidentally, we had some enquiring about purchasing our EP, it's in the works and we're looking forward to releasing it soon!! Shall keep you updated here! =)
