Hi jw6h, They are burning some sort of material called "gie". I can't remember if its a wax or a fat. Apparently those flames never goes out. I also agree about your point about being happy, they were some of the poorest people I have ever seen but they were also the happiest people I had ever seen.

totally agrees! having had the opportunity to such exposures sure does change one's perspectives toward things in life..

the happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the best out of everything that comes along their way...

I thought I would share some of my pics. These are from a trip to Tibet I took sometime ago with some friends. It was an amazing trip. I took hundreds of shots but these are the ones I am most proud of with the exception of the one which I am in. They are just to prove that I was there...heehee. I would encourage anyone to go for a trip there. You really learn to appreciate what you have in such a poor country. This is one place which does not make me too proud to be Chinese as The Chinese government is slowly but surely wiping out the Tibetan people. I won't go into politics but I hope everyone finds out the truth themselves.
