I heard the Editors while their tour was getting a little promo time on the radio back in SF.  They sounded good and were playing at the Fillmore which is one of my favorite venues in SF, so I got tickets, watched 'em and enjoyed the show.

A year later, they've come out with a new album. It usually takes me a while to listen to an album and figure out the songs I really like. Sometimes those songs that sound cool in the beginning start to become annoying and vice versa. I finally got into the groove of the album to the point of looking up lyrics online and such when it popped in my head to check out their concert schedule. Lo and behold, they're playing at the Fillmore during the time I'm going to be back in the States (almost 3 weeks in Sept).  Sometimes it's remarkable (considering they're from Birmingham, UK) how things seem to work out so well like that!

For one thing, The Fillmore is considered to be one of the best venues in SF. I think it's largely because of its long history plus the availability of tables, food, and drinks on the inside hearkens back to a nostalgic era before the advent of the home entertainment system. It's also not a large venue meaning you can actually see the artists easily without the use of big screens. It also means the venue typically sells out quickly for popular artists. One of my major disappointments was lining up in the rain and not getting tickets to see The Cure play their "last concert".

Another really cool aspect of the Fillmore is that for such a great show, tickets are relatively cheap.  It still boggles the mind that some stadium and "grass seating" shows cost upwards of $100 (oh wait I paid that much for the Cure concert out here...). Editors tickets were $20 a pop. I think I might have even paid $15 a pop for their first show. But <insert expletives> I can't believe how much Ticketmaster takes! In addition to their $9/ticket "handling fee" they also tacked on some other $5 "service charge" making the grand total for 2 over $60 bucks! One of the greatest parts of living in SF was being able to go to the venues and buy tickets directly from the box office (where, gasp, tickets cost face value) thus cutting Ticketmiser out.

The Editors, Sept 20th at the Fillmore, 8:00PM

Coincidentally, I listened to a KQED forum podcast today about the rise of hearing loss.....

    dude, heres some more remarkableness.
I actually went to university(staffordshire) with all the members of the editors, they were in my year doing music tech (i was doing film tech), and spent sometime on uni projects with them too, proper decent blokes too, its nice seeing them doing well, shame we all kinda lost touch though
