What’s that floating in the water?

There are lots of cool art exhibits going on all the time.  All of This is Melting Away has been going on since August at the Royal/T Art Space, and ends on the 31st of this month. The exhibit showcases work with themes of flattening, melting, transforming and such, with selections from Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Dave Muller and Franz West.

I’m not a big photography buff, but I think some of you photographers might appreciate this one.  At LACMA, there is going on the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008, an exhibit showcasing the magazine’s archives of vintage prints along with contemporary photographs.  This one goes on until March 1, 2009.

To Illustrate and Multiply: An Open Book at MOCA’s Pacific Design Center is an exhibit that showcases artists’ books and how sequencing plays roles in different ways for different artists.  This one goes on until March 1, 2009.  And at the MOCA on Grand Avenue, The Problem Perspective is an exhibit showcasing works by Martin Kippenberger, an influential German artist whose works became popular in the mid-1970s until his death in 1998.  Exhibit showing through January 5, 2009.  And don’t forget that MOCA is free on Thursdays from 5-8PM.

And finally, this one is pretty interesting imho.  The Getty Center has an exhibit going on now called Tango with Cows: Book Art of the Russian Avant-Garde, 1910-1917.  The exhibit explores how Russian writers and poets dealt with the civil unrest after the failed revolutions of 1905 through their book art.  November 19, 2008-April 19, 2009.  

I haven’t had a chance to check any of these out, but I’ll definitely set some time for them before they end.
