So.... yesterday I finally had a day off to do nothing and I decided to make dinner from scratch!! Other then attempting to achieve super star status, I like to think of myself as the next iron chef... well... not really.. but i sure try! =)
anyway.. so I decided last night to make an italian roasted chicken and greek lemon garlic potatoes. It was very good btw..so if anyone wants the recipe.. let me know. ill post it up for you. It's a bit time consuming but a relatively easy recipe.
so before I started prepping the chicken I had to clean it out, then I see this little red tag so i reached to pull it out. AND THEN!!! before I knew it I yanked out the head!!! omg!!! i freaked out!! It was the first time I had purchased a whole chicken here in asia and I never thought the head would still be attached!! Yah yah.. you can call me a wuss if you want.. but i dont care.. I had no idea the head would still be attached and when I yanked on the tag and out falls a chicken head starring at me lifelessly.. I was super freaked out. I know everything we eat was alive at one point.. but i just have this thing about cooking things with heads still attached. I have no problems eating anything... and i mean that in the most literal sense.. but damn.. I dont like to cook with things that still have heads or anything that is still alive. Which is why I cant cook live seafood either. I alway have to have the person kill it for me first. But anyway.. that wasnt all. After that I reached into the cavity to see if their is anything in there to take out. Because in the states, that is where they put all the organs.. in a nice little baggy I might add.. and you just take it out or cook with it if you like. Then before I knew it again... I see two feet still attached to the drumsticks! at that point I was like... holy moly......=0 I had to have someone else cut off the feet... but I did behead the chicken myself.. =/
long story short... american chickens are generally much bigger because they are so hormone injected, they dont have heads or feet still attched, and yes.. I know this may be such a lame thing to blog about.... but i promise it was quite traumatic at the time... =)
