  • People Who Want To Fly

One of my greatest joys as I have worked with actors, writers and all kind of people who want to get past their fears is to see what amazing changes that can happen when people are willing to venture out of their comfortable zone.
Hey what does that mean?  Sometimes it is just being afraid to get up in front of people,  other times it is a person who wants to go to that next level, that scary place where you could share who you really are.   Yes sometime actors just come to learn more techniques that help them do better in their auditions, get the jobs they want and play the roles they are hired for that blow the minds of their audiences.  All good.  All wonderful!  But I must admit my favorite wins are the people who never believed they could play a character, or stand up in front of a roomful of people and feel confidant and give the speech that makes them proud.  Yes I must admit those people are some of my favorite memories.

I think of the students in my classes like Olympic ski jumpers.  You know those amazing people who fly over the edge of a mountain and instead of screaming OH NO and covering their mouths in terror they actually open their arms, pull them back, stick out their chests and embrace the unknown.  And they get to FLY!
That is what I see every time I spend two days in workshops with people who want to fly.  Sometimes they don't know what they want to discover, sometimes they do.  it doesn't matter.  It is so exciting to see people find out that they can create amazing characters, they find out they can stand up and share their life.  They learn they can do things they never thought they can do.

Every single time I see a person discover something new about themselves I am filled with joy and the kind of excitement that I used to feel when a 1000 people applauded at the end of a performance.  It is even better because I know that person will go on in their life and take that experience with them and perhaps help someone else find out something new and exciting about themselves.

Talk about flying, I actually had a really fun dream last night where I was huddled together with a bunch of close friends, and we were 'flying' in the air with our backs to this board, which I controlled with my thoughts! It was so fun and invigorating I was actually laughing all the way through....till I woke up and found it was just a dream.... I hadn't laughed so much in years. ;)

I realised the dream brought me so many memories especially of when I was a kid. Seldom do we learn (as adults) from the joy of our inner selves and experience, especially of our childhood. I realised that it is only those who learn to fly and dream their dreams like children.....ie. who let go of their basic fears who can only transcend and move onto greater things. Because successful people are not tied down by whatever society expects them to do or become. Successful people are truly successful because they find joy, meaning and happiness in being themselves and being happy with whatever they do.

I think that was one of the things why I loved your workshops Jeanne....having the ability to 'fly'!! ^^ And I love flying! ^^

Thanks for the inspiration! I like the idea of challenging ourselves to "share who we really are" in the way that scares us most...

That's so weird - I was just a few days ago looking out the window and thinking about flying - like literally flying - how cool it would be if we could - for the first time in a long time. Then all of a sudden, at the gym, my energy has really boosted. And coincidentally, I've been thinking about going back and studying more acting.
