Jazz Surprise at the Singapore Art Museum

I was at Dome Cafe at the Singapore Art Museum having a power dinner this evening, and while I knew there was going to be some kind of a jazz music event going on there, I didn't think that I would actually go attend it... but when I excused myself to go to the restroom, my ears picked up the sound of this amazing female voice, and I thought to myself, "Gosh, that voice sounds rather familiar... I wonder, I wonder, I wonder if it could possibly be..."

So being ever the curious person that I am, I decided to go take a peek at who that voice might belong to, and as I turned the corner and looked, I suddenly realised why that voice was soooo very familiar... it was AnD artist Tay Kewei and she was singing, accompanied by guitarist Daniel Purnomo... unfortunately, I couldn't just leave in the middle of my power dinner and just go watch her sing, so I went back to the cafe to finish what I was in the middle of.

When the power dinner was done, I headed back to my office to unload my things, and decided to head back out to run an errand... this brought me back to the Art Museum again, and I couldn't help myself, but my feet were rooted to the ground as I stood there and just listened to Kewei sing... it was just mesmerizing.

Before I knew what was happening, one of the event people approached me and suggested I just head on in and join the event, since it was open to the public anyways... that kinda snapped me out of it for a bit, and I told the event lady that I would be back... she probably thought that I was just saying it and that I would not be back, but when Kewei and Daniel went to take a break from their set, I rushed to finish my errand and was back in no time :-)

I forked out 30 bucks for free flow of drinks tonight, even though I ended up only having one Coke the whole evening, and I still thought to myself, "This is such a steal!"

But then again, considering that I had forked out more than 100 bucks the last few times I saw Kewei onstage, of course this felt like a real bargain to me... LOL! :-D

As it turns out, tonight's performance was apparently quite a last-minute thing, so my being at the Art Museum tonight and being able to see and hear Kewei performing there was really a matter of happy coincidence! :-)

Some of the songs that Kewei sang tonight included "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "Quando Quando Quando", "Wonderwall", "The Girl From Ipanema", "Sunday Morning", "Umbrella", "Dream A Little Dream (Of Me)"... of course, this isn't everything, 'cos I didn't manage to hear everything... but yeah, she basically did "jazzed up" versions of these songs, even though some of them are actually pop songs... so all in all, some good stuff there.

As this was really a last minute thing for me, I'm sorry but I have no pictures to capture the moment... but this evening of jazz music really added to my quality of life today... so I'd really like to say thanks to Kewei for helping me de-stress after a long hard day at work with your melodic voice... and thanks to Daniel for his lovely jazz guitar playing... you guys are both so incredibly amazing! I enjoyed your performance so much tonight! :-)
