  • Goin' back to school!!!

    A'ight--so I'm not ENROLLING back in school (a la Rodney Dangerfield), but I have been back to several campuses in the last few months for speaking engagements, most of the places which also played PING PONG PLAYA prior to my arrival. Quick roll call: Stanford, Yale, University of Southern California, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and California State University Long Beach.

    It's quite cool getting back to the campus life, even if it was just for a weekend here or a weekend there; and even more so, it's cooler to chat and hang with the current crop of college kids (a quick shout out to all the new friends I made over the last few months!). Hopefully, I even enlightened some of them about issues out there in the Asian-American community (above and beyond my schooling them about some classic movies they've been missing out on including any number of John Woo HK films--A BETTER TOMORROW, A BULLET IN THE HEAD, THE KILLER, HARD BOILED--as well as THE LAST DRAGON and THE KARATE KID).

    I'm a little surprised that in this internet/information age, not as many people are aware of some of the BS still going on in Hollywood (David Carradine STILL playing a Chinese guy, THE LAST AIRBENDER crap)...but hopefully, word is spreading. I have to admit--the C-dub in me's a bit tempted to go Buggin' Out on THE LAST AIRBENDER ("Sal! We're gonna boycott your fat, pasta ass!!!")*. Who's with me?!

    Yo, Jimmy! congrats on all those speaking engagements. The internet may be out there with the information, but the desire for accuracy isn't. *shrug* I'm not sure how that will ever change -- without a demand from viewers. So, yeah...with you 100%.

    Eh, most people are just oblivious to Hollywierd's stupidity. I honestly don't think they even notice when a character is the wrong race. Why Hollywierd believes the audience at large will not accept Asian actors in leading rolls is beyond me. Course, I don't know how they're ever gonna find out to the opposite when all they do there anymore is remake other films ::rolls eyes::

    This ghastly pale white girl is with you on the boycott. And when the film crashes and burns  (smokin' hole baby!) just MAYBE they'll start to figure it out...(?)
