Today I went to watch the new Sean Penn movie 'MILK' directed by Gus Van Sant. It is a true story about California's first openly gay elected official Harvey Milk, who was assassinated in the 1970s....
I think this movie is very meaningful and certainly provokes many thoughts. The cast was picked very well and the display of human bonding between the committee members, the public or the lovers were very moving. Though one thing did captured my attention most, was the scene where Sean Penn spoke a very crucial point in his debate to protect gay teachers;
'' I was raised in a Heterosexual family, with heterosexual parents, my teachers that taught me in school were also heterosexual, and I was raised in a strong heterosexual community. Nobody taught me to be gay, yet I am homosexual.''
This got me thinking.....Is homosexuality really Innate? This is where I struggle....... As a Christian, if i agree to the innateness of this sexual tendency/ behavior , that means its something one is born with, therefore part of 'human nature', hence; its Natural.
Although I am personally not prejudice against the homosexual community, however this movie really got me thinking about the rights and wrongs of this behavior. If being gay is a natural thing then they shall be able to reproduce shouldn't they? I strongly believe that our human bodies are designed they way its suppose to function, where man and woman shall have sex and reproduce generations after generations of the human race. So this must not be the way GOD designed us to be.........
Perhaps it is human nature, like our greed for money, the nature of attraction, or the evil acts of jealousy and hate. All of these are behaviors found in all races & nations, just like homosexuality. Now I am really curious about this topic!!!! Something that I have never spent time to figure out where I should stand in such matters. All I know is that in this world we are living in, if you say you disagree with homosexuality, you will be labeled or judged for being a bad person, for being prejudice, and not civil minded enough right away! So then it all becomes personal again.... sigh.......
Anyways great movie! A MUST WATCH!
