  • Two ceramics artists, Lie from Indonesia and Rachel from the UK, have respectively chosen JCCAC as their creative base. How does Hong Kong inspire their creativity? Do they consider themselves “Hong Kong artists”?

    Lie Fhung (李楓)

Lie Fhung, a Hong Kong-based Indonesian artist, creates installation works incorporating a range of materials - often combining them with delicate porcelain. In her work, she investigates the inner workings of human beings, their subconscious realms, and the many contradictions in human experience. She has worked at JCCAC since 2012.

    Rachel Smith

Originally from the UK, Rachel now lives and works in Hong Kong. Her ceramic art utilises the vessel form as a means to express her response to the urban environment in which she has lived all her adult life [London, Glasgow Hong Kong/Beijing]. She produces wheel thrown ceramics, each piece individually decorated with motifs borrowed from the city, forming a type of collage of everyday life.
