Free the city elephants!!!!

If I’m a tourist and I come to Bangkok for the first time and I see an elephant walking on the streets with LED light on his tail..I'd probably think Thai people still use elephants as a form of transportation because sometimes they will stand side on to traffic in the middle of the road with buses, motorbikes, tuktuk.







But since I'm Thai and I live here.. I’ve seen elephants wondering around the clubbing scene/shopping centres or those food stalls on the street..The elephants are trained by the handlers to do tricks to gain the sympathy from passersby (whether Thai or tourists); to buy bags of bananas or sugarcanes to feed the elephants; or to take snap shots or worst, to beg for money.

In Thailand, the elephants are a symbol of our King. However nowadays, the symbol of royalty has faded to a symbol of poverty. These handlers force the elephants against their will to make their living. They don't feed the elephants until someone stops and take pity on them and feed the elephants. The elephants will stop along the way at gas stations and construction sites to drink from dirty buckets or water hoses.

I’ve personally seen these poor animals and every time I think about them, it is just so sad and It's sooooooo heart breaking. The elephants are very smart creatures and they belong to the nature with better environment. Look just how cute this one is
