    You asked about the story...

    My imagination tells me that this woman has just seen something that has changed her life for ever.  Until now, life hasn’t been great; but, there’s been some sort of steadfast “truth” that she’s always been able to count on.  Moments ago…that truth proved false.  She wasn’t meant to see it.  No one else knows that she saw it.  Nevertheless…the damage is done.  It’s all she can do to “hang on” as the last piece of solid, comfortable, ground is ripped from beneath her.
           
    To me, the one exposed eye displays a painful realization.  Yet, somehow, the shape of her mouth shows that even now, her mind is slowly beginning to build the wall that will emotionally lock away her heart and its last desires for good.  It’s a self defense mechanism that she’s always possessed; but, never fully allowed to activate.
