Not sure what I think about this.  For sure, I very much see the marketing usefulness of this song for the French Socialist candidate - his having the most diverse (religious and racial) support.  I also get the attempt at hip (not hip hop, but hip, as in youthful and modern).  But still.... use of that word is problematic enough when black Americans use it.  Outside of community context, it just comes off as space for major conflict.

‘Niggas in Paris’ Used in Campaign Ad of French Presidential Candidate François Hollande

An ad reportedly released by the presidential campaign of Socialist Party candidate François Hollande features a rather odd soundtrack choice: Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Niggas in Paris."

The spot, which mocks rival Nicolas Sarkozy's tenuous-at-best relationship with residents of the Parisian suburbs, shows Hollande's diverse support base holding up their electoral cards like middle fingers directed at the incumbent.

Holland defeated Sarkozy in the first round of the 2012 presidential election. A second round run-off will be held on May 6th to determine which of the two will lead France for the next five years.
