  • When hip hop meets classical

I was stumbling through youtube and found this.

Kenny Muhammad "The Human Orchestra" performing incredible beat box on the classic Symphony. It's amazing how you can combine both together and create such a piece.

Short intro: Kenny Muhammad is a beat boxer commonly referred to as the "Human Orchestra". He is widely regarded as one of the best technical beatboxers ever (a position that puncturing his left lung in a car accident has not altered), with a style that focuses heavily on complex polyrhythms and not necessarily percussive sounds such as a saw-effect bass.

Kenny is known for using a technique called the "wind technique", which heavily utilizes breathing as an element of the beat box routine. This creates a unique effect of audibly inhaling and exhaling while simultaneously creating percussion sounds with the mouth.

When it comes to combinations. It reminds me of another performance. Nam Hyun Joon "Poppin Hyun Joon" dancing to a guy singing opera.

Short intro: Nam Hyun Joon, often referred to as Poppin' Hyun Joon or Happy Hyun Joon, is a famous Korean contemporary dancer. He is best known for his unique popping techniques. He is also a former rapper for Young Turks Club, and is now going back to the music industry, with his recent release of his latest album One & Only.

Here's another performance from Poppin Hyun Joon and Kids at Star Dance Battle 2005 that I favorited

Meanwhile, check out Poppin Hyun Joon movie 精舞门 Kung Fu Hip Hop (screening here in M'sia on Jul 24) starring alongside Jordan Chan & Fan Bing Bing. Trailer below.
