CJ7 Opens Strong Despite China Snowstorms

Stephen Chow's 'CJ7',  opened strong in Mainland China and Hong Kong theaters this week despite record breaking winter weather.  The film took in 28 million RMB (US$3.9 million) in the Mainland and HK$3 million (US$385,000) in Hong Kong theaters on the opening day. 

The film is a departure from Chow's previous physical comedy style, which has left some critics unhappy with the change.  Mainland reviews have been much warmer, perhaps as CJ7 presents a stark contrast to recent hit films 'Warlords' and war film 'The Assembly'.

The numbers are down from Chow's previous film 'Kungfu Hustle', which still ranks as the all time #1 HK film at the box office
