Woo is not a gamer himself but was inspired by his son who is an avid game player. Upon learning of the capabilities of the next gen video consoles, Woo's company began persuing IP-licensing opportunities such as original video game development. According to the game developers he provided detailed feedback on the game design and action, so as to tailor it to his style, which has been described as 'a ballet of bullets' for its stylish portrayal of gun fights.
They went a step further by actually hiring Chow Yun-fat to perform for the new game. His likeness, motion capture and voice are included in the game (17 years have passed since the film was produced, one wonders if digital effects are used to make 2007 Chow resemble 1990 Chow...) Fans of 'The Mummy' and/or 'Blood Diamonds' will be happy to know that South African actor Arnold Vosloo also lends voice talent to the project.
The game will be released in August in the US on the PS3, Xbox and PC, but there's a key difference between the three platforms - the PS3 version, which comes on a high capacity 'blu-ray' disc will include a high definition copy of the original 1990 'Hardboiled' film, the first time this has been done.
