It's such a tragic flaw of youth, to believe you know exactly what you want and then to hold steadfast to it.

As usual, I am at work on a Sunday.

We have these little cartoon aliens that are the studio mascots and I was trying to find them on the computer so I could send them to our off-site graphics designer.

I couldn't find them so I texted my boss, "Trying to find aliens, please help."

And... I just realized how crazy that sounds.

I need a vacation.

"He's not American," Amy explained to the waiter as he walked away with our cash.

Jon still has not figured out American money. The denominations of our coins still confuses him, and after dumping out the contents of my own coin purse on the table for a closer look, it was easy to see why.

Our coinage can be very counter intuitive. Dimes are smaller in size than pennies and nickels, the new dollar coins are very similar to quarters and none of the coins are marked with numbers. And... what's a "dime" anyhow, no where on the coin does it say "ten cents."

Who thought this system up?

Americans, of course.

Alice An is a freelance creative and entrepreneur based in New York City. After working full time in the New York fashion industry for what she describes as “too long,” Alice went out on her own by starting Candifiend Jewelry, a small jewelry line, and Candifiend Studio, a creative services company.

This also gave Alice a chance to return to the modeling and acting career she originally abandoned for a steady paycheck.

Alice was a member of the original editorial staff of Altra magazine (First as Managing Editor, and then as Photo Director), a publication meant bring attention to and serve the interests of the Asian American community. She is currently the in house producer and part of the makeup artistry team at DEX New York Studios.

In her free time Alice likes to sleep because she no longer does much of that.
