POLS1520 Government & Politics of China November 30^th 2008.

Objectives: 

1.     To provide students with a solid foundation in the study of Chinese politics as well as an introduction to crucial themes in comparative political analysis;

2.     To help students understand the historical background of the Chinese communist movement and the lasting impact of the Chinese revolution on contemporary Chinese society;

3.     To assist students to become acquainted with the structure, institutions, ideology, and political dynamics of the Chinese political system;

4.     To familiarize students with current social and economic transformations in China and help them come to grips with the issue of China’s political future.

Assessment and Teaching Methods: 

Coursework             50%

Examination              50%

Coursework consists of participation and attendancy (10%) in both the lecture and the tutorial, one oral presentation (15%) (11^th NOV oral presentation cannot be longer than 25-30 minutes.), one term paper at least 4,000 words (15%), and one book review (10%) while the examination is a two hour written essay over a selection of questions.

The final examination questions will be divided into two parts: 1) definitions of political terms or institutions and presentation of historical/political events: 2) a three page essay answering a more analytical question.

1. 透過比較三至四首歌詞內容和香港有關的歌曲去討論流行曲和香港人身份建構的關係。 ( 所選歌曲最好要來自不同年代、或由不同歌手演唱並在曲風上有明顯差異，討論應從曲風和詞風入手。) 2. 透過比較 同一藝人不同時期的兩場演唱會 去探討表演形式之改變和時代變遷之關係。 3. 試論述近年新增的流行曲傳遞模式的利與弊 。
