I had an email thread convo with an unnamed guy friend yesterday, let's call him Pablo.

Pablo emailed me and two other of our female college buddies out of the blue, listing out the 5 qualities he's looking for in the future Mrs. Pablo. The three of us implicitly know this is a reminder to help with the search. Of course, Pablo is actually a great guy so the three of us don't mind the reminder.

Anyways, Pablo's list went like this:

    1) Off-center sense of humor (dorky)
    2) Intelligent "interesting intelligent"
    3) Not nec employed
    4) Vivacious / active-type
    5) Family oriented

Interesting.... kinda.... maybe not really. I reply, "Let's see, besides number 1, aren't these true for like all of mankind?" (ditzy sounding I know, wasn't thinking straight)

To which I receive the response, "Most guys don't seek intelligence in their women..."

Hmm...well, no where near the first time I've heard such a concept. A few years ago, I'd say the vast majority of my guy friends all iterated comments that fully validated Pablo's thesis, and did so on a fairly frequent basis. Some even said that it was a negative attribute if her intelligence came too close to his (the thought of hers surpassing his.... mind boggling!). Of course, whether or not they really truly meant it, I have no idea... I go back and forth.

Anyways, Pablo did some research on the topic and emailed back the following which I thought was worth sharing:

    --------------------------------------------------
    Guess I was wrong:

"Eighty-nine percent of high-achieving (and presumably high-earning) men report that they marry or would like to marry a woman who is just as or more intelligent than they are, says Christine Whelan, PhD, author of Why Smart Men Marry Smart Women. Also, 92 percent of men who describe themselves as "successful" or "very successful" say they are more attracted to women who are also kicking ass in their careers."

That's interesting. I've never once heard any of my guy friends say they want to be with a woman that is smarter than them.
