I didn't get eaten by sharks tonight on the Discovery Channel

Hey everyone,

I was kicking myself because I thought I'd forgotten to send this out in time, but I just remembered I'm a day ahead since I'm in Korea. The Discovery Channel show I co-hosted for Shark Week is airing tonight at 10pm. I won't be able watch it until I get home next week, so please don't ruin the ending for me (if I get devoured, I'll be bummed). I hope to catch up with all of you soon!

How Not To Become Shark Bait

Premiering Tuesday, July 29, at 10 p.m. ET/PT

This premiere pulls together a thrillseeking team with a purpose: escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, former lawyer turned Survivor winner and adrenaline junkie Yul Kwon, marine biologist Jeremiah Sullivan and scientist Dr. Marty Jopson travel to the Bahamas to test shark attraction theories on lemon, tiger and Caribbean reef sharks, focusing on the sensory perception of sharks including colors, vibrations, smells and other attractors.

In the process, viewers learn strategies for staying safe when in the water.

Thank you for success of bone marrow drive

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to get registered for the bone marrow, as well as all the volunteers who gave up part of their Sunday to help out. We registered over 45 customers in three hours, which is pretty darn good (I've had drives that have gotten as little as three, but maybe that says more about me than anything else). We're donating all proceeds from the new registrants to the Asian American Donor Program. Thanks again!

Seriously, for real this time... Bone marrow drive on Sunday, 4pm-7pm

No more head fakes, I swear. If we change the day of the bone marrow drive again, I'm stripping naked and giving free yogurt to everyone (not that anyone would have an appetite anymore...).

Sorry the last minute change, but we're going to hold the bone marrow drive on Saturday, June 28, from 4pm-7pm. If you were planning on coming tonight to get registered, I'll be there with testing kits that you can take home and fill out at your leisure.

Bone marrow drive at Red Mango this Friday, June 26

Hey everyone, we're hosting a bone marrow drive at the store on Friday, June 26, from 8pm-10pm in an effort to find a match for Michelle Maykin, a 26-year old Cal grad who desperately needs a donor.

I'll be taking yogurt orders personally and serving it to anyone who signs up at the table outside (so you don't have to wait in line), and we'll donate proceeds from all volunteers to the Asian American Donor Program. If you haven't gotten registered yet, please try to come out. There are a lot of people out there, mostly kids, who need our help to have another chance at life. As many of you know, my best friend in college died from leukemia because he couldn't find a perfect match, and it breaks my heart to see so many people out there still in need because not enough of people have volunteered. So let's work together to make a difference in other people's lives and enjoy some good yogurt while we're at it.

Yul Kwon was born in Queens, New York to parents who emigrated from South Korea. The family moved to the West Coast when he was six years old and he was raised in Concord, California...

Yul Kwon was born in Queens, New York to parents who emigrated from South Korea. The family moved to the West Coast when he was six years old and he was raised in Concord, California. He attended high school at Northgate High in Walnut Creek, California, where he played varsity water polo and track and graduated valedictorian.

Kwon then attended Stanford University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in symbolic systems (theoretical computer science). While at Stanford, he received the James Lyons Award for Service, attended officer candidates school for the U.S. Marine Corps and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Kwon went on to receive his Juris Doctor Degree from Yale Law School, where he served on the editorial board of the Yale Law Journal.

Kwon has enjoyed a diverse career straddling both the private and public sectors in law, business and technology. He practiced a mix of litigation, appellate, transactional and regulatory work at several law firms. He also served as a judicial clerk to a federal judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, he worked as a legislative aide to Senator Joseph Lieberman in Washington, D.C., where he helped draft sections of the Homeland Security Bill and other technology-related legislation. Several years ago, Kwon decided to switch careers and become a management consultant at McKinsey. From there, he joined Google's business strategy group and then went back into consulting.

Kwon is probably best known for his role on "Survivor: Cook Islands" where he was the first Asian-American in history to win the show. He was voted one of People Magazine's 2006 Sexiest Men and donated $50,000 of his Survivor winnings to encourage Asian-Americans to become bone marrow donors. He has also hosted TV Shows and been interviewed by numerous television programs.
