@ BACKSTAGE Live
from 10.30pm -5amTo start the new year of 2009, Kongkretebass is proud to present Lynx (Soul:r, Creative Source, 31 Records, Digital Soundboy, Bingo/ UK). Described as one of the freshest sounds to come out of drum and bass music, Lynx is no stranger to the big tunes and big stages.
Since emerging at the forefront of the drum and bass scene in 2007, Lynx has established a reputation for high quality productions with an innovative edge and DJ sets to match. Soul:r, Creative Source, Digital Soundboy and Bingo are just some of the leading labels he’s released music on and are proof that his sound is not only fresh but also diverse.
Reinventing drum and bass from the ground up, Lynx’s funk-fuelled sets have gained a reputation for smashing stereotypes as well as dancefloors and, like his productions, appeal to clubbers across the spectrum. With massive tracks including ‘Disco Dodo’ and ‘Global Enemies’ under his belt, Lynx has clearly demonstrated he’s not afraid to break the mould whilst staying true to his distinctive style.
‘The Raw Truth’ is his forthcoming & highly anticipated debut album in collaboration with Kemo MC, showcasing a potent mix of beats, rhymes and basslines. Don’t miss Lynx’s Hong Kong debut performance!

Soul:R (Marcus Intalex) Creative Source (Fabio), Bingo Beats (Zinc), Digital Soundboy (Shy FX)…just some of the labels which will be releasing a Steve Nobes (aka Lynx) track this summer. When you add this to increasingly frequent airplay and an impressive set of DJ bookings starting in spring, 2007 seems set to be the start of an exciting career for Lynx.An exciting career but an electrifying new trend in drum and bass sound. D&B has been waiting a long time for a producer who could combine musical diversity with crowd pleasing success, and Lynx has been worth the wait! You will see no better proof than the super clubs of London, where dance floors are ripped up on a weekly basis by Mariachi, Uno, Shaku, B Box Roller, Global Enemies or one of the many other tracks in Lynx’s current repertoire.
Portsmouth born Lynx had his first release (in 1996 with Southampton based Hardcore pioneers, Ramos, Supreme and Sunset Regime) when he was just 17, so you may wonder why you have only started hearing his name in the media. Lynx has been working tirelessly on his sound, racking up 6 years of commercial studio experience and a masters degree in Audio Technology. Combine this with his passionate knowledge for funk, rock, soul, jazz and world music and you may start to understand why Lynx’s music sounds so far above that of the typical drum and bass producer.Portsmouth seems an unlikely stomping ground for cutting edge talent, but Lynx managed to unearth a producer with a similar passion to his own and soon teamed up with Raiden. (Who later went onto release on Renegade Hardware). Raiden (aka Jarman) and Lynx collaborated on various tracks such as Moon Warriors (Late License, 2001)
Lynx’s dedication to music was strong from a young age, and he started work experience at Chichester based studio ‘Airtight’. Airtight was a nursery for producers including Friction, Mampi Swift, Stakka, Skynet, and Skinny who were all found busy writing the next D&B anthem. There could have been fewer places better suited to help Lynx hone his skills. Lynx ‘s hard working attitude and natural ability for music production soon led him to co-manage Airtight.
From his musical beginnings producing hardcore, in 2002 Lynx moved into the new, techno-infused wave of drum and bass and racked up a string of releases with Brighton based label Underfire Recordings and Audio Blueprint (Stakka & Skynet). Tracks such as Meltin Pot and Special Agent were championed by Andy C, Ed Rush & Optical, Shimon and Kemal.Being a producer passionate for progression and having an aptitude for diversity, Lynx moved easily from techno drum and bass to the aptly named ‘liquid funk’. Lynx collaborated with popular French DJ Flow to produce Time-Out (Renegade Recordings, 2002) which was played by the legendary John Peel. From then Lynx grew confident in his ability to capture the essence of a musical genre and his releases started to span the drum and bass musical spectrum.
Summer 2006 and Mariachi (Lynx & Malibu Rhodes) started a snowball effect in the scene. From the world-famous Marcus Intalex playing the track on his Solutions Radio show, to Radio 1’s Fabio opening his show “Best of 2006” (Dec 30th 2006) with it. Mariachi (Creative Source, due for release Spring 2007) and it’s flip-side Uno still receive regular radio and club play, but are today joined by a host of other Lynx tracks including Shaku ‘Exactly the tip I am looking for’ (Grooverider Radio 1) and Global Enemies featuring MC Kemo‘ this track is gonna be big, deep deep stuff’ (Fabio, Radio 1). Fabio has recently featured him on his show as a new talent, and has been quoted to say ‘you should be seeing Lynx collecting awards next year at Radio 1xtra’s Drum and Bass awards’.Marcus Intalex has been so impressed with Lynx’s productions that he is releasing a single and an EP on the groundbreaking Soul: R recordings. Not only that 2007 will see Lynx integrated into the Soul R camp as an official Soul: R artist alongside legends such as Calibre, Marcus Intalex and ST Files.
