A Recap Of The End of 2009... Projects Galore!

My apologies for not updating my blog here in the last year since August of 2009.  But, I have been busy as we all should be.

To make it short, this is what happened:

 - SEPTEMBER, 2009:

I wrote, directed, executive-produced and even acted in my second short film shot entirely in Los Angeles.  With a small crew in key positions and only five actors (including I), the film was shot in one day.  It is called BEHIND LIFE about a married couple in an uncertain future.  Currently in post-production.

 - OCTOBER, 2009:

BROWN SOUP THING was the Official Selection of the Filipino International Film Festival of Los Angeles.  It played in front of a sold out crowd inside the Los Angeles Theater Center in Downtown Los Angeles!  Everyone, especially in the Filipino/Asian American community, have been waiting for this film to play in the West Coast (after hearing the rumblings from its World Premiere in Chicago in 2008).  Even comedic actor, Rob Schneider, wanted to see the film! ABS-CBN, a major television network from the Philippines was there to cover the event as the films' stars and the filmmaker were there on the red carpet amongst the flashing glare of the paparazzi.  BROWN SOUP THING received the biggest pop among the other films screening at the festival.

 - NOVEMBER, 2009:

BROWN SOUP THING was invited to screen at the Pacific Media Expo (PMX) in Los Angeles along with a Q&A and meet & greet with the movie's cast & crew including a special appearance by Korean-American stand-up comedian, KT Tatara. He had everyone in stitches!  This was the first time that PMX was showcasing Filipno endeavors surrounded by Japanese anime, Manga, Sailor Moon, etc. which were the usual PMX attractions every year since.  Along with Filipino mixed martial arts, BROWN SOUP THING attracted viewers across the board and they got to learn and discover more about the Filipino-American culture and lifestyle through a cast of characters who are different from one another but share one thing.

Also, in November, 2009, the day of the Pacquiao boxing match at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, BROWN SOUP THING, which features a cameo by Manny Pacquiao, screened at Nevada's own University of Las Vegas (UNLV) sponsored by Filipino American Students Association (FASA) to a sold out and lively crowd of young college adults.  It was such a thrill that after the screening and its large turnout, later that night, we all witnessed Pacquio defeating  Miguel Cotto!  That was a sweet ending to a fantastic weekend in Las Vegas!

 - DECEMBER, 2009

I began post-production of my first short piece titled, ANNIVERSARY about two young singles missing a second chance of happiness.

Also in December, 2009, Cinema Epoch released the theatrical trailer version of VIOLENT BLUE to the world online. Again, set for an April, 2010 theatrical release.

So, yes, almost every project I worked on snowballed during the Yuletide season last year.

Amongst all this also includes a short video which is number three in its trilogy currently in post-production.  This time around I played a most exaggerated and comedic character!  And, I've been cast in a new feature film called NOIRLAND starring James Duval, Lloyd Kaufman and other eccentric personalities.  Lastly, BROWN SOUP THING will be playing at the Delray Beach Film Festival in South Florida in March, 2010.

Well, I have to get back to work on editing ANNIVERSARY while I hired an editor for BEHIND LIFE while developing my third short film (TBA).
