  • Go, "dad", go!!

    Wow, I just heard that one of my college friends, Jansen Chan, is competing on the Food Network Challenge on TV! He's one of four pastry chefs competing for a $10,000 prize by designing replicas of famous world landmarks out of chocolate! Here's the link.

    Jansen was actually my pledge dad when I pledged Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, back at Cal. (That's also how I met Stephen and MommyMok.) I knew that he was a great cook back then (he'd made some yummy treats for me and the other "pledge kids"). We lost touch after college but I knew that he's been working as a pastry chef at some of NYC's well-known restaurants, and I'm proud of him!

    Sadly we don't get the Food Network channel in HK, but I already asked a friend in the States to record and upload the episode for me so that I can watch it. I hope he wins! :)

    I stumbled across an article about Jansen, and found out that his mom was a teacher at Galileo High when I was attending there.

    I think Pastry Chefs have the hardest job in food industry, I know so many chefs tell me that a pastry chef can make or break a restaurant.
    Best of Luck to your friend Jansen. I'd love to see the episode, sadly I don't think it gets broadcast here. Sounds like my kind of food!

    Sweet! That reminds me of this girl I new in the dorms at UCLA. She was on the Price is Right and won the showcase showdown. I think she won a small boat or something. Then years later I saw her on this Law reality show. She got eliminated eventually, but she has a lot of luck on getting on wacky tv shows.
