    i've been in Georgia for the past two months shooting my first feature doc "Ultimate Christian Wrestling".  it's a joint thesis project for NYU grad school.  i'm collaborating with Tara, my creative partner since my second year at Tisch.

    it is a crazy concept.  "does Jesus wrestle?" is the question i get asked the most.  unfortunately he doesn't.  how this works is that it's just like a regular pro wrestling show; good vs' evil, masked wrestlers with personalities, and grandiose entrance music. 

    how does Jesus fit in? they have a drama/skits throughout the matches, usually dealing with temptation, drug addiction... and at the very end of the show Jesus comes out and saves the troubled soul.  then it's followed by a calling to the alter or the wrestling ring in this case.

    down in GA wrestling is huge.  so they have these free shows to attract people.  their target audiences are the ones who don't feel comfortable going to church. 

    when we first went down there we thought they would be fundamentalist, Jesus freaks, you name it.  but they are just good Christians who are thinking outside of the box. 

    "it's not about how you spread the word, it's about the results."

    Reminds me of the Passion plays or the numerous ways in which Christians, Muslims use to represent physically/visually good and evil, satan and g-d. It's another way in which the religion has adapted to the culture, and yes Georgia has it's own culture ;)

    Interesting, so I have to ask, are you Christian? That's something you can answer if you're comfortable, no pressure.

    Tisch means auf Deutsch "table" Der Tisch :)

    Interesting. Don't understand it but interesting. I'll come back and check your future blogs. Maybe need some explaining to us sinners. ;D

    I remember watching lots of wrestling on TV when I was little. Tag-team wrestling too, or is it called pairs. (?) I really got into it too. Weird for a 6-year old.

    Wow. I am a Christian and I think this is great. I also think it's great that you're doing your NYU grad school thesis covering something positive that Christians are doing.
