Do
you prepare like a champion? Do
you know what champions do to prepare?
Are
you really prepared? How do you
know? These are questions that I
have been asked many times. I
heard an interview that really added to how I answer these questions now. I
would like to share some of it with you.
I
heard Evan Lysacek being interviewed after he won his gold medal at the
Olympics in ice skating. He said
that Scott Hamilton, past Olympic gold medal winner told him, “Preparation is the answer. Take away
as many variables as you can.”
Evan
did his short program FULL OUT every day at the Olympics where as other
“marked” it. When asked why he did
that, he said, “I do it 4 or 5 times every day back home so doing it once full
out is no big deal.” He had asked
Scott how do you handle the craziness of the Olympics…?” And the answer was “It’s all in the
prep.”
Well
actors, actresses, writers and directors I think this is some advice that
everyone should consider. The
pressures you face and the adjustments you must make will always be there but
how you handle them will make all the difference. Just like world class athletes, if your preparation has given you a strong foundation and
tools that you can use in any situation then you will handle the pressures and
the adjustments and maybe better than your competition.
Of
course there are many ways to prepare but I can promise you that in my
workshops that I bring to Hong Kong you will find lots of tools, tricks and
trade secrets! Everyone needs to
practice their craft. Come spend
two days with me and not only learn some new tools to use but also get to work
at your craft. Yes the business
part of what you do takes a lot of time and effort but once you have the
opportunity to audition or work at your craft you need to be able to come
through with the goods. So come
spend a day doing what you love to do and learning to do it even better.
Top
athletes like Lysack and Hamilton know that practice and preparation will be
your best partners when the pressure is on!
Go to my event page and also Jason Tobin's event page for all the information about upcoming workshops.
See
you at the workshops.
