hong kong is a strange place.  it seems like it has a switch for when things happen.

i’ve been leaving for work at 7am pretty consistently since november and i notice that the streets are empty, except for a few bussess and cabs.  for a while i drove to work because i could cut the travel time by half.  however, i have decided lately that i’d rather take public transport to save a few thousand dollars a month of gas and parking.

but upon taking the train at 7am, i found that it was completely full.  but when i resurface, the streets are still devoid of life.  i occassionally return to the surface momentarily in central to grab breakfast before i change trains and it’s pretty quiet.  but down below, it’s always buzzing.  But if i’m a little later.  and exactly 8am, a swarm of people just show up on the streets suddenly it really is quite cool.  and right on cue at night it just dies down at 8pm.

on a side note: has anyone seen the oscar nominations.  some very intersting choices there.  i for one disagree slightly with the whole The Dark Knight being snubbed for best picture. i really felt like it was a wonderfully crafted film.  and chris nolan should have gotten a nod for director.

the other categories are well all damn good choices and it was tough to make those choices, so i am quite happy with it.  although i am also dissappointed the score for dark knight missed out cause it was an awesome score.  it ws so effective and simple.  and i really am this time speaking from a most objective point of view. 

having said that Dark Knight got 8 nods, and Benjamin Button got 13.  that’s pretty cool.  i don’t think dark knight will win all of the technical awards like effects cause benjamin button certainly had some good ones, but the sound effects and all that should go to dark knight.

and i am also hoping that iron man will win sound editing cause they did have an incredible uses of sound and application to surround speakers. 

i have a feeling slumdog is going to win best picture and director cause they are looking pretty good. ok enough from me.  any biters?
