vietnam was a really interesting and eye-opening trip for me. taking the long and strenuous bus ride to location in the outskirts, staying in hotels with no electricity and water supply, shooting with vietnamese cast (award-winning casts! nothing less!) and crew, having a taste of the real local food, racing against time, the language barriers and also adapting to the different working style of the people there etc etc etc and more etc-esss... however, despite all these, it was a really great and valuable experience. I will agree to do it again in an instance, as I feel I have taken away so many precious lessons and a priceless experience from the shoot/trip.

shit loads of photos to share....

    be warned...

our first meal, upon arriving in vietnam.

saw two lovely kittens and decided to snap a picture. can you spot where the other one is hiding?

our strenuous, 3-hours bus ride to the outskirts of hcm city.

this is where we stay for the first two nights...

this is our first shooting location. it's a squatter area near the sea. the living condition is really quite shocking. makes me realize how fortunate i am...

kids bathing by the one and only well, which is shared by all the residents there.

guess what i'm looking at or doing?

ans: getting mic-ed up by jason, the sound guru.

co-actors and actresses... the one in green is an award-winning actress in vietnam.

    me and michael.

rehearsing before the actual take. as you can see from the camera slinged around my neck, i'm acting as this photographer who saved the female lead and put the whole story right. lol

haha so many people were involved just to bring michael up!!

rehearsing before the actual take again. that's my female lead, anh. again, another award-winning actress.

    taking photo with the villagers.

the boy acting as anh's brother. he can act damn well man.

night has fallen. time to light up for the night scenes.

we were on this bull cart. it's my first time to be on a cart pulled by a bull and it's damn fun!! would love to do it again!

    the classroom scene.

    breakfast in the hotel...

we also shot at this rice field...

    ... where there were cows...

    ... and ducks!!!

these duckies are so cute! they never walked out of the group. watch the video below!

though the sun was hot, the wind was tremendously strong. our umbrellas were often upturned and we had to squat all the time.

still, when we had to "action", we had to "action".

guess what this is. sand? soil? nope, it's rice.

    taking a shot...

rewarding ourselves with a good, authentic vietnamese meal after the shoot.

and not forgetting, shopping at the marketplace later on.

in singapore, our knowledge of vietnamese food are beef noodles, rice-paper rolls etc. so when we didn't see any of those, we started asking for them. so the local crew brought us to have our dose of beef noodles. haha

we went out drinking along this big canal one night and look at what kind of alcohol we are having: scorpion wine!!!

    shooting at a bar.

some random photos... i thought it was hilarious that the woman was holding the mobile for the man.
