  • Small update + open to suggestion for next May's show

    It's been a few days since my last entry.

    I haven't done a lot of interesting things since the karaoke party hence I didn't do any blog lately but I realized I didn't talk about something I went to in November.

    So on November 23rd, I went to the Kamata 2008 dance contest ( http://www.kamata.be/workshop.html ). I had to go there as I knew some of the dancers.

    But before that, and despite the 23rd being a Sunday, I had to work from 2 pm. Due to some problems I left work only around 5pm (planned time was 4pm). Then I just got out in the middle of a "snowstorm". I drove very carefully and though the road was really slippery I was still able to control the car. but, Belgians aren't used to snow so there was chaos and my way home which should have taken me about 15 minutes took me about 2 hours (including almost 50 minutes for some 600 meters).
    I was the back home at the time the contest was supposed to kick off. I couldn't go there dressed as I was at work so I just put on more adapted clothes: Evisu jeans (I really like Evisu though it's expensive), Carl Kani sweater,...
    And went to the contest which ended starting at 8 pm.

    I don't have videos as cameras were forbidden but the results where the following:
    First place went to Maestro Crew from Slovenia (and current Hip Hop world champion)

    2nd place went to some French crew

    And 3rd Place went to Pile ou Face (Belgium and France).
    I have already posted some of their videos about one year ago so I'm not going to post them again but I'm trying to get them on AnD.



    ok now let's change the subject a bit (I should maybe do a 2nd entry)

    We are looking for some costume designs for our next show in May or at least any suggestion about finding a budget.

    My latest dance class was last Wednesday and we discussed the costumes for our school's show in May. this year my teacher want's to make it a real show (by that I mean something that will impress the audience).
    Now our problem is that our Hip Hop/house class doesn't get any budget for that so we usually just buy stuff ourselves. But last week, my teacher worked for the Cirque du Soleil here in Belgium and wants therefore to use some really well designed costumes instead of the same cheap hip hop/sport clothes (won't he change his mind that I don't know but why not already ask for ideas).

    So basically if you have any good idea about doing a fund raising (keep in mind this is only a dance studio's show not a big show). For now, the plan would be to just do it the old school way and ask for a little support from people going knocking at the doors. But, if any one's got better ideas I would like to hear them.

    Also, I know this will be harder to put in place (as we are in Belgium) but this is more or less this website's purpose so if you or someone you know can help with designs of the costumes that might be of interest.

    Please keep in mind that I'm just looking for ideas at the moment and that nothing's decided yet. But this could also be of interest for my friends from "Pile ou Face dance crew" if they need costumes for their own show (though I'd prefer to let that being talked about if they end up joining the AnD community)
