I woke up and felt sadness in my heart. i kept asking God "when" will this suffering end but then deep inside i already knew...

The past few days ive been preparing myself for the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program) in D.C. on the 27th of this month. There is a huge meeting happening there and they have invited me to speak of my story. I was super honor and knew God had me going for his work.
So as you all know, 5 years ago i had a Bone Marrow Transplant. It was a successful procedure that I'd never thought could happen, especially when i was a minority.

Family, last night when i was studying more on the different types of illness that needed a transplant i found myself in tears. My love for all those who is suffering and those who needed a Bone Marrow Transplant done desperately made me realize that "Today" wasn't just another day. Every single day matters, not only for myself but for my brothers and sisters.

What is a Bone Marrow Transplant?
A bone marrow transplant is when special cells (called stem cells) that are normally found in the bone marrow are taken out, filtered, and given back either to the same person or to another person.

Why is it done?
Bone marrow produces stem cells. These stem cells eventually develop into blood cells. Bone marrow is a critical part of the body because it is the body's main blood cell "factory." If something is wrong with the marrow, a person can become very ill, even die. In diseases such as leukemia and aplastic anemia, the bone marrow is unhealthy. The purpose of a bone marrow transplant is to put healthy stem cells in place of the unhealthy ones. This can treat or even cure the disease.

Did you know...

At any given time, over 6,000 patients from all over the world, and of all ethnicities, are searching the registry for a match.

Patients will find a match from their own family only 25-30% of the time. The other 70-75% of the time, patients must find an unrelated donor.

Ethnic Minorities have a 30-40% chance of finding a match from the existing NMDP registry. Caucasians have an 80% chance of finding a match from the existing NMDP registry.

Approximately 50% of all Ethnic Minority donors will NOT push through with donating if called as a possible match for a patient. (whether because they are unreachable, they say “no”, or become medically ineligible). Whereas over 70% of Caucasian donors WILL proceed with donating if called as a possible matched.

The current NMDP registry has more than 7 million registered donors.

BUT…

Only 25% of the current U.S. National Registry consists of Ethnic Minorities (Asian, Pacific Islander, African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Multi-Race)

My name is Emily. I have 3 kids. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and I have already had two transplants. The first transplant was a self transplant, but I relapsed after 9 months. The second time around, I went through chemotherapy but couldn’t find a donor to match me. So I went ahead and had a cord-blood transplant. It has been three years since my cord-blood transplant and my body is weakened again. This time around I really need to find a matching donor in order to survive. My youngest son is only six. I cannot imagine my children without their mother.
Every time I am in the hospital, they always call and ask when I will be coming home. They need me, and they have been through so much already. I want to live, to live for my children. A matching donor is my last chance for survival. Please help me…
