  • Texas lawmaker: Asians should change their names to make them ‘easier for Americans to deal with.’

    CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS SHIT?!?!?!

On Tuesday, State Rep. Betty Brown (R) caused a firestorm during House testimony on voter identification legislation when she said that Asian-Americans should change their names because they’re too hard to pronounce:

Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown said.

Brown later told [Organization of Chinese Americans representative Ramey] Ko: “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?”

Yesterday, Brown continued to resist calls to apologize. Her spokesman said that Democrats “want this to just be about race.”

THIS KINDA SHIT MAKES ME EMBARRASSED TO BE AN AMERICAN.

if you want to let Betty know how you feel:

    my email to Betty:

    Betty,

You are a disgrace to US politics and American society. You are exactly the reason, along with former President G.W. Bush, why the rest of the world (developed and undeveloped) hates and mocks the US.

Your statements are perfect examples of cultural ignorance, prejudice and overall intolerance.

I was born in Korea, but grew up in California. I am a proud American citizen, but people like you make me embarrassed and ashamed to admit it at times. Shame on you.

    Sincerely,

    Min

This Betty Brown should stand down from public office immediately. Her words are intollerable and only add to more bullshit in life we have to contend with.

Min, I agree with your words vigourosly.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Will.

My last name is Dutch and I'll bet she can't pronounce that either. Maybe we should make everyone whose name SHE can't pronounce change their name while were at it ::rolls eyes::

    WTF??!!
Why do you have to "learn Chinese" to pronounce the last names when these aren't Chinese characters, ya moron?!!

She's completely ignorant and a huge disgrace to the American people. Nice letter though. I agree, it's people like her who make me feel ashamed to admit to being American at times.=(

I actually saw this article on Digg and it got a lot of passionate responses as well. Good thing we're not alone in thinking there's something wrong with this whole situation.

Bravo Min, let's see her try to pronounce my last name when I send her an email.  And my name is in English, if she can't pronounce it, she needs to go back to grade school.

    Ugh....
<hangs head in embarrassment for the entire caucasian race>
I feel like I should be apologizing... Brothers and sister from other mothers and misters, SHE'S IN THE MINORITY with her archaic, blatantly racist way of thinking!

Ignorant hick... Why would anyone need to learn Chinese to pronounce names? More ignorance.

Edit your blog, Min. Include her email address for the rest... She needs to hear from thinking people.
