Well, not too sure if I should be happy or laughing at this. Went to get a birthday gift for my sis after work & guess what? Two different shop sales assistant thought I was a Malay. Gee do I really look like one????

I wasn't talking when I stepped into the shop cos I was too busy looking around and she just walked up to me and talked to me in Bahasa (Malay language) but surprise, surprise, surprise these 2 sales assistant are actually Chinese!! I asked her in Cantonese "do I really look like a Malay? Err..I'm actually a Chinese, you know". She apolagised and said "but are you a Malay mixed parentage"???? Omg!!!!!!!!!! Belinda Wong, must be something to do with either your complexion or dressing. This is actually not the first time many mistaken me as a Malay. Ahem, I AM A CHINESE AND I AM PROUD TO BE ONE.. xie xie !!!

P.S.:  Hmm...come to think about it, it's not too bad, I manage to talk her into giving me a 20% discount!!

I know a friend from malaysia as well (her son goes to the same school as my girl), and I asked her if she has Chinese blood, she said yes, otherwise she won't learn chinese.  But to me she looks like Malaysia, very pretty, like a mix of both races.  So usually, do you speak Cantonese when you in Malaysia?  I don't know what language do I need to speak when I was in Singaore - mandarin/ cantonese/ english first?

I get that sometimes - not Malay but Filipino usually. When I'm in Europe, it's Japanese (bc they get a lot of Jap travelers).
