17-31 October is Bandanna Week. Bandanna Week is Canteen's annual appeal for children and teenagers with cancer. Obviously, this year it's two weeks, so they haven't called it Bandanna Week and have instead called it the Bandanna Challenge. Every year since 1999, I have bought a bandanna. I think it's a great way to raise money. Even if you're not the charitable type, the bandanna is such a great product that you might still buy it.

Here are this year's bandannas. Some they repeat, others they don't. These are the ones currently available online all year round. I sometimes find other designs when I look through the ones they sell in stores during the appeal period. I like the hibiscus design most. Thinking about getting the purple one.

Of course, there are other ways to donate, but I think this is the best. My sister thinks I'm a bit selfish for only wanting to buy one every year, cos one year I was having trouble deciding between two and she told me to get both of them and I said no, but it's become a tradition and I want to keep it like that. I also keep them in order so I know which one I got each year. I wore them for the first few years, but eventually I stopped cos I didn't want them to get worn with use.

Last year is the first year they got Kiwi celebrities to design some of the bandannas. They've done it again this year, but I find the ones not designed by celebrities are nicer. In fact, last year I had such a hard time deciding because I didn't like any of the celebrity designs and the design (or two?) I did like came in horrible colours. I ended up picking an orange one with black print because I would rather have one with bad colours than get a design I didn't like. Boh Runga designed the one with that Chinese symbol and Daniel Carter (rugby player) designed the rugby ball (ha!) ones. His design was slightly different last year, but was still rugby balls. At least I think it was different. Can't remember if Boh's one looked like that last year, but I know it was the same symbol. I think they were smaller and more of them.

That's a nice way to raise money for a good cause. I like this one.
