Nippon Connection - Japanese filmfestival

This week a japanese film festival, called Nippon Connection took place in Frankfurt. They rented a community house with various rooms on the university campus.

Yaji, who has lost his wife and only son to an epidemic, lives alone in a ramshackle row house. He is in love with Okino, a popular local courtesan, but she remains frustratingly beyond his reach. But when she wants to run away, she needs his help. Enjoy this period costume drama in which no samurai appear, but will bring a tear to your eye after you've laughed yourselves silly.

This was a really funny roadmovie taking place three hundred years ago in Japan an showing the life of the simple people. This movie is a really funny comedy with a sideplot which really made me a bit clueles, but nevertheless good for spending some entertaining hours!  The movie got 4 of 5 stars from me - definitely a must see if you wanna see the simple life in ancient japan from another perspective.

This movie was introduced by the director who turned out to be a very humorous and humble person. He also agreed for a Q&A round afterwards which we didn't join because we wanted to meet up with some friends for having a beer and some karaoke . So we managed to get Luat out of his office and meet up with him in a viet/thai restaurant close to the central railway station where I haven't been before. So we had a good time, discussing recent issues from the ASBC and singing some karaoke until it was time for me an Lani to catch the trains (in her case the tram) home .
