  • Sylvester 2007 - or when a night gets worse

Before I start to tell what happened last night, I want to share a curiosity with you I saw in a shop for interior design:

Would you put this kind of lamp into your living room ?!?!

Ok we (Michael, my "secial one" and some others) met up in the Bonsai Lounge, our favourite location in Frankfurt for celebrating Sylvester (new years eve). We had a lot of fun, chatted a lot and some also drank a lot

(Michael already quite drunk, tries to look cool)

When it went close to midnight we ordered some prosecco and went down on the street to enjoy the chinese fireworks from our bar and also want to burn the bangers, my "special one" bought.

Did I "enjoy" for chinese fireworks?! - hmm later more . But first for all who don't know what chinese fireworks is: you have a loooong fuze with an countless number for bangers (or crackers) attached to it and when you start to burn down the fuze they explode within deciseconds one after another....it's an amazing view, but soooo loud that you have to protect your ears....(and we stand more than 10 meters away!!) and they had a seven or eight meter long fuze they burned down and also the thai restaurant close by did the same . Nevertheless I enjoyed it at least from optical part.

(The lounge is in the first floor of this two storied building and they went on the roof and let the fuze hang down from it - certainly keeping it away from the walls by two wood poles)

Afterwards we started to burn the bangers of my "special one" and we started (no idea how it started) a kind of "street fight" with other vietnamese guests we knew by throwing the bangers from on side of the street to the others. I know this was dangerous and unreasonable but it was really funny (and at least one time each year I want to be unreasonable)

Afterwards a DJ played some R'n'b and Hiphop but we wanted to look for some karaoke or dancing (not quite clear at this time) so we headed to our favourite karaoke spot Hai's restaurant but they did not offer karaoke this night . And a former colleague of Michael did not want to stay in a restaurant again so we looked for other opportunities. Finally we ended up in the "Yours Australian Bar" in the lower floor were they have a little dancefloor and also offer some "karaoke" - so we had both. But the "karaoke" was awfull, because the music was much too loud and you had scream the lungs out of your body to hear something (the music was too loud anyway and not my kind of taste - though it was ok).

After a while the former colleague of Michael and her friend left and so we (Michael, my "special one", me and another guy called Michael but I will name him "Mike" here) stayed a little longer. I enjoyed a Guiness (the only reason what may make me visit this location again) together with Mike and soon Michael left as well and it was good that way because he was really drunk. He said goodbye and my "special one" left as well - without saying any kind of farewell too me . What the hell does he think I am?!?!

At least Mike was so kind to wait with me until it was time to catch the first underground to the central station though he was really tired as well. He's an interesting person. He's native english speaker from the US but speaks german fluent as well and he works as inhouse translator for a bank in Frankfurt. And he speaks mandarin as well (was his second subject at university) so we chatted a little (and did some advertisement for www.askbenny.cn because he wants to refresh his mandarin a little). He also accompanied me to the underground station which was on his way home.

And without him I wouldn't have seen this:

(It's the home of the "Kinka Suite" a very exclusive but excellent bar and restaurant in the city centre)

Surprisingly the train home was full of more or less drunk and tired party people .

(Sorry no more pics because the battery of my cam act strange that night, but Mike took some which I hope he will send them soon.)

This was definitely not the start into 2008 I liked to have .

Edit: That's why it's hard for me to say "Happy new year"...I hope you understand it.

That lamp looks like a really big version of the lamp that's at the beginning of Pixar movies (like "Toy Story," "The Incredibles," etc.)!

I think you're gonna have to cut the ties on your "special one."  The other Mike seems nicer!

The lamp is a little big for my living room, it looks more suited to a study I think :)

Sorry that the evening did not end as good as it should of for you Silky. Mike was a decent fella walking with you. It was a shame that your  "special one" could not even say good bye. I hope he wakes up and smells the roses, and then realises you deserve an apology.

Those fireworks made lots of smoke on the ground! Fireworks are not legal here because the authorities feel they are too dangerous-- every year people are injured setting them off. The town does a big display by the river on Independence Day & it is very nice. Still, people get them in other states where they are legal & were setting them off last nite. My older dog is petrified to hear them, but my son's puppy who is here visiting here him for the holidays could care less.

Anyway, I can understand why you were not pleased Michael did not say goodbye, even tho he was drunk. It was good Mike accompanied you to the train station, that was a lovely gesture. It sounds like parts of the evening were enjoyable & those glasses are lovely. Btw I don't enjoy modern design, but many people do. It is an uncluttered look & much easier to maintain. My house is too cluttered & it is my new year's resolution for 2008 to work on that, because I intend to sell it & relocate in 2009. No one would enjoy seeing a cluttered house when it is shown by a real estate agent, altho I''m very comfortable here. I have to think of the resale value now. Best wishes again for 2008 Silky. :)

    Hi,

    Thanks for the greetings.

Did it ever occur to you that your "special one" might be jealous even in a drunkard state?  Chinese guys usually do not verbalize their feelings but can be hurt easily.

The fireworks - what great fun.  It is banned here and we can only have the air release type with no explosives.
