Concept Sketch :

Character design and illustration for the "7 Deadly Sins character design project".

Character descrīption : He sheds blood tears and his horns gush blood. He has lost all senses except for pain. Rage has turned him into a mindless killing machine. A silent, mindless killing machine.

Media : Sketched on paper and painted in Photoshop using a Wacom tablet.

Though I enjoy drawing androgynous characters... Here comes Wrath, a muscular man looking creature with a pair of blood gushing big horns and blind eyes. When I thought of Wrath, the first images came to mind were horns, wounds and a muscular man. The very first version I did, was so bright in red and yellow with vibrant burning flame in the background. But then I started to think it was a bit too cliche and obvious, so I switched back to the subtle colors and shades. So it's more like a combination of 80% rage and 20% grief. And to me, silent rage is much worse than the loud and furious rage.

On a different note, If I were to draw another version, I think I would transform it into a sexy lady. A sexy yet furious lady with the greatest rage in purgatory. That would look very interesting too.

Just a random thing I thought of long ago, but wouldn't it be interesting if Wrath (if it were a character or embodied in any one person) really hated violence and anger and all the things he/she does, and so Wrath is a very violent aggressive person but at the same time extremely full of sorrow and guilt because he can't help himself. Always thought if I wrote a story with Wrath that's how I'd portray him.

I think it'd be interesting to see wrath as a woman too. Although as a woman I think she'd enjoy all the pain she put on men...seems like that's how a lot of women are naturally anyway -_- hehe.

I love the preliminary sketc and the whole papyrus feeling to it!! But I agree, wraith and silence makes sense...
now I wanna see the feminine version =p

I liek the whole silent rage thing. Very interesting. There is this saying in Chinese that goes Men shed blood but do not cry. I think that you might have just created a whole new meaning to this proverb.

I would like to see how the drawing of the lady turns out to be ...

Sonya FU Man-Yi is a surrealist artist based in Hong Kong. Growing up in the former British Colony where East meets West, Fu is influenced by both Oriental and Western culture.

Starting from 2010, Fu has exhibited in galleries and art fairs across Hong Kong, China, America, Australia and Germany. Fu's work has been featured in many renowned art publications including Curvy, Laminate Most Wanted and the Semi-Permanent art books.

In 2011, Fu was endorsed by Semi-Permanent as a new and notable artist of Hong Kong and selected to demonstrate live digital painting for Wacom at Semi-Permanent HK. In the same year, Fu was awarded with Perspective Magazine's '40 Under 40' which celebrates and acknowledges top young creative talent throughout Asia.

Fu's chosen medium is digital painting, this encompasses an intricate and unique process which enables her to paint with very detailed and delicate brushstrokes. Using inspirations from dreams, music, morality and religious belief systems, Fu bases her subject matter on hypnagogic imagery and the unseen beauties she has encountered during episodes of sleep paralysis. All of this combined introduces the obscure and eerie atmosphere in Fu's work.
