  Say Mosquito, Synergy, Dr. Eggs, Shotgun Politics and Fame will go face to face in the finals for a chance to perform at Canada’s top alternative music festival!
  Winners will be chosen based on Audience (25%) and Judges (75%) vote! 
  The winning band that night will win an all expenses paid trip of a lifetime to go to Quebec, Canada and perform alongside NOFX and other headliners.

• Underground 108 coming this month!

  The Underground is back on track with it's numbered series and #108 promises a night of great home-grown music in the shape of three of the most exciting bands currently on the live music scene.  The show takes place at Backstage in Central and the date to mark in your diaries is Saturday, 22nd June 2013.   

  Opening band, Dark Himaya, bring their expressive ambient music with soaring vocals. Fronted by Ivy & Aileen, they're a visually and aurally exciting band who launched their debut CD earlier this month.  Then we have one of the most energetic pop rock band in Hong Kong: the one and only Shotgun Politics, whose shows are remembered for fun and music you can dance to.  To conclude our #108 show, we have the amazing Les Gromechkos with music that combines ska, crazy accordions and wild unexpected moments, they will have you dancing & laughing throughout their set.

• Turtle Giant (Macau) wins Planetrox China

  Turtle Giant from Macau wins Planetrox China 2012.

  The anticipation had been building up since early this year, it reached its apotheosis on 7th July 2012 as 5 bands went mano-a-mano for the final.

  The audience was treated to bands such as the groovy hard rockers Bomber whose music blend elements from East to West.    Refiy stood out for a catchy jazz pop set entirely sung in Putonghua with a strong female lead singer.  Long-time metal veterans Tie-Shu-Lan known for their gripping live performances, great heavy riffs and thunderous bass and drums, it’s no surprise they have drawn comparisons to metal greats such as Korn and Deftones.  Venue; energetic hard rockers who clearly take their musical & fashion cues from Japan’s visual rock scene.  Playing last was the eventual winners, Turtle Giant; this band combines the best parts of post-rock, indie rock and chamber pop to create a winning sound.  Their very tight performance got the whole crowd going and they are most certainly a band to keep your eyes on.

  All this was witnessed by a record crowd of above 300 people in Backstage, and was judiciously overseen by a panel of judges from the music industry. 
  
  Each of the finalist bands were also presented with Focusrite Tshirts and a Scarlett 2i2 –a nifty portable recording interface.
  
  

  The moment of reckoning elicited some very emotional reactions and a lot of cheering from the crowd, as Turtle Giant was declared the band to represent China at the Envol et Macadam festival in Canada.

  Says Chris B, organizer of Planetrox China, "It wasn’t just about winning. We all are proud of this night, because every band played great music. Local bands are improving every year and are more confident to forcus on their own style and compositions.  Competitions like Planetrox give them international opportunities."

  Beto Richie, drummer of Turtle Giant reacted with, "We're very happy to have participated in Planetrox China. It was a wonderful experience, very professional and motivational. We are also taking this opportunity provided by Planetrox to prolong the trip and tour Canada and possibly the US. It's a great opportunity."

  Turtle Giant, based in Macau, China already have a busy year planned.  In the second half of 2012, Turtle Giant is gearing up for the mid-September North American release of their All Hidden Places EP. The prolific tunesmiths will be balancing select festival and showcase appearances with creative time to finish yet another release of all-new songs before the year is out.  http://turtlegiant.com

   

  Envol et Macadam

  An urban festival featuring outdoor concerts and live indoor shows in downtown Quebec City venues since 1996. Each year over 25,000 people attend and it's also an ECO-FRIENDLY event with on-site-recycling, recyclable cups, reusable bags etc.

  Last year's headliners include Rise Against and Flogging Molly.

  Planetrox

• Planetrox China SEMI-FINALS are on now!

  From the people who bring you The Underground HK, comes the next promotion vehicle and music showcase for emerging homegrown talent to gain international exposure and springboard to worldwide success.  
  One Hong Kong (including Macau) band will have the chance of a lifetime to perform in front of rock royalty, thousands of fans and top band headliners to be held at the Envol et Macadam - 
  Quebec, Canada's top alternative music festival from Sept 6^th – 8^th 2012.

   

  In the past years, Bad Religion, Mastodon, Sum 41, Pennywise, Karkwa, The Sounds, Metric, Malajube, Raekwon and Bloc Party are but a few of the well-known artistes that have played and delighted festival goers at Envol et Macadam.

   

  This year, over 30 bands joined the competition in China.  Each participating band uploaded an MP3 of one of their original songs on to Planetrox website. From these entries, a panel of international industry judges shortlisted the participants to 10 semifinalists.  
  Currently a public voting process allows fans and online audiences to view the 10 semifinalists' videos and cast their votes.

  The results of this public vote combined 50/50 with the Envol et Macadam judges' vote to determine the final five who will compete in a live Finale on July 7^th at Backstage, Central.
  

  The prize for the PLANETROX winner includes a live performance of 20 minutes on one of the outdoor stages of the Envol et Macadam Festival 2012, airfare tickets for the winning band members plus internal travel, four-star accommodation in central Quebec City for four nights, free pass for the Festival and promotion of their band in festival communications.

   

  Voting period ends on 8^th June 2012.
