    Hi all

my friends Snoblind sent us an invitation for a very good event in Hong Kong.
I think artists on AliveNotDead should try and attend as much as possible, since this is of interest for all of us.

check out the details in Vincent's email.

We would like to introduce Creative Commons Hong Kong to you. As musicians in Hong Kong, we think CC is very useful to protect musicians' interest and their copyrights, and other people (such as writers, artists, photographers, filmmakers) who do creative work in Hong Kong.

Creative Commons (CC) is a copyright license founded by Professor Lawrence Lessig of Stanford Law School. It defines the spectrum of possibilities between full copyright (all rights reserved) and the public domain (no rights reserved). The different types of licences help you keep your copyright while inviting certain uses of your work. In other words, it is a "some rights reserved" copyright. Creative Commons Hong Kong (CCHK) brings the Creative Commons licenses to Hong Kong by porting CC licenses in compliance with Hong Kong's Copyright Ordinance.

CCHK is a project by the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, The University of Hong Kong.
    More info about CCHK: http://hk.creativecommons.org/

Although CC is something new in Hong Kong, it's well-established in other countries. The annual CC conference was held in Sapporo, Japan this year. To promote CC, we have participated in CC projects in Taiwan and collaborated with other Asian artists. A compilation CD called CABACA was released in August this year and the CD was distributed at the CC conference this year in Japan. The CABACA CD is also available at other outlets such as:
    http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/28951
    http://cabaca.org/index.php/Sale_information

CCHK will be launched on 25 October 2008 (Saturday) 12 noon - 6pm at HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, 135 Junction Road, Lok Fu, Kowloon and we would like to invite you to join the CCHK Launch on that day. Creative Commons Founder Lawrence Lessig and Chief Executive Officer Joichi Ito will be present on that day.
    Details of the event: http://hk.creativecommons.org/2008/09/11/launch/
Snoblind will have a live performance from 4-6pm on that day too. The music that we'll play on the CC Launch day will be a totally different set.

Most of the creative people in Hong Kong, especially for indie artists, do not realise the need to protect their copyrights. CCHK really needs your help to make it a success. We hope to see you and your colleagues there on that day!
Kindly introduce CCHK to your friends and invite them to join the event on 25 October 2008!

damien, most of artists in Hong Kong know of CC, I believe, but it is good that eventually they are opening an official HK branch... yes, we usually arrive quite late on this kind of things...
