This is so pure--the narrative aspect totally removed.  The subject doesn't matter, it is all about appearance: effects of light and texture.  The minimal color and the horizontal banding is all you give us to look at, with the  highlight reflecting off metal in the center of the picture being so powerful.  This is a picture that forces the viewer to surrender narrative with its attendant aspects of subject and time, and enter into experience divorced from story and familiar references.  I could look at this picture for hours and never be done with it.
