AARON'S NOTE:

I'm currently teaching 8th Grade Language Arts in Belzoni, MS. I am also serving as a mentor to a senior high school student Kentrice. In order to graduate, seniors must complete a project with a research paper, presentation, and a product. Hoping to pursue music as a career, Kentrice has chosen as her product to compose a score for a short film.

I am writing to ask if you know of anyone who would be in need of such a service, either for a Senior/Thesis/Class Project or a some sort of short piece, particularly a dramatic narrative.We would like to work closely through the process with the filmmakers, not only so that Kentrice can get a sense of how the filmmaking/sound design process works, but also to make sure that the filmmakers get what they need creatively. Kentrice comes from a musical family, has taken choir for several years, and is an excellent student at a school in trouble and facing Title I regulations (most likely Kentrice will be valedictorian).

So, while she has not written a film score before, I know she is up to the task and will do a wonderful job. She has already written her research paper on the history of film scores and its basic processes and together we are currently examining community resources for the project such as local musicians, exploring technical details such as software we can use (ex., Reason, Finale Notepad), and going over music theory together. Please email me if you know of anyone who might be interested in working with Kentrice.

The finished piece needs to be done by May however we are looking to start working with filmmakers as soon as possible. Not only will this work be part of her senior project, we are also hoping to create a portfolio piece for Kentrice, particularly for school applications.

One final note, we hope to have a screening of the film at the local theater to fulfill the presentation component of her senior project, so this might be another incentive to work with us (:
